About CritScore
CritScore is a video-game review and catalogue platform. Browse games, read and write reviews, build collections, and see the CritScore — a community rating — next to the aggregated professional critic score for every game.
What the CritScore rating is
The CritScore is our own community rating for a game — an aggregate of user review scores, each out of 10 — displayed alongside the aggregated professional critic score. The Top Rated ranking uses a Bayesian-weighted version so that games need both a strong score and enough reviews to rank near the top.
Where the data comes from
Game metadata — titles, release dates, platforms, cover art, franchises and companies — is sourced from IGDB. User reviews and the resulting CritScore community ratings are original to CritScore.
Frequently asked questions
- What is CritScore?
- CritScore is a video-game review and catalogue platform. You can browse games, read and write reviews, build collections, and see the CritScore — a community rating — next to the aggregated professional critic score for each game.
- What is the CritScore rating?
- The CritScore is CritScore's own community rating for a game: an aggregate of user review scores (each out of 10). It is shown alongside the aggregated professional critic score so you can compare how players and critics received a game.
- How is the Top Rated ranking calculated?
- The Top Rated list ranks games using a Bayesian-weighted version of the CritScore. Bayesian weighting pulls games with very few reviews toward the overall average, so a game needs both a high score and a meaningful number of reviews to rank near the top — preventing a single 10/10 from outranking widely-reviewed classics.
- Where does CritScore's game data come from?
- Game metadata — titles, release dates, platforms, cover art, franchises and companies — is sourced from IGDB. User reviews and the resulting CritScore community ratings are original to CritScore.
- Which games appear in CritScore's lists?
- Lists and search show standalone games — main games plus remakes, remasters, ports and standalone expansions — each labelled by type. Add-on content such as DLC, editions, bundles and cosmetic packs is grouped under its parent game rather than listed as a separate title.
- Is CritScore free to use?
- Yes — browsing games, reading reviews and viewing ratings is free. Creating an account lets you write reviews, rate games, and build collections.
